1. Why did we switch from 2.5-layer to 3-layer construction?
   What’s the quality difference?
   
   1. Performance: There’s a reason all the best, high-end technical shells are 3L—3L performs better. The addition of a backer
      improves the comfort of the product by lifting the membrane and
      fabric off the skin, giving space for air to move and whisk away
      sweat and moisture, facilitating movement of the vapor (heat and
      sweat) back through the membrane.
   2. Durability: 3L constructions are inherently more durable: the
      addition of that third layer better protects the membrane from
      contamination as well as abuse. In addition to the mechanical
      durability, we also reengineered the membrane itself to better
      withstand degradation caused by heat, water and UV. The result: a
      membrane that will withstand the abuses of outdoor ventures for
      years to come.
   3. Impact: In addition to elevating performance and long-term
      durability, we focused on reducing the environmental impact of
      the Torrentshell. The Torrentshell 3L uses ECONYL® recycled nylon
      yarns (50% postconsumer recycled from things such as carpet and
      fishing nets). We also introduced 13% biobased content into the
      membrane, thereby reducing the need for petroleum inputs.
2. Seriously, a 3L shell for $149? How was this achieved? Is
   there anyone else out there making a 3L rain shell at this
   price point?
   
   1. We have some of the best material engineers on the planet and
      spent years collaborating with our partners and suppliers, who
      share our dedication to delivering a top-tier performance product
      with a lower environmental footprint and at an approachable price
      point. A couple of private label pieces are in the ballpark of this
      price point, but not many, and no major brands or competitors.

   1. The 3L Torrentshell is versatile everyday rainwear. Whether setting
      up the tent in the rain, out on the trail, or on hand for when the
      skies open up, the Torrentshell 3L is your take-anywhere, do-anything rain piece. Customers looking for a basic rain jacket that can
      cover the spectrum of their activities from daily driver to weekend
      adventure. Great for moderate outputs and below (whereas a
      customer who is more sport-specific and/or higher-output focused
      may want to shop other products in the range).
